Campolide, one of the most traditional neighbourhoods of Lisbon, was facing a sad but common problem nowadays: the excessive trash on the streets. More than cleaning up the place, we needed to come up with an idea able to raise awareness about the dumping of waste in the correct places. Thus was born Pago em Lixo (Pay in Trash): whenever someone handed the trash at one of the waste collection spots, the person received an equivalent amount in a local currency we created, called Lixo (Garbage). Later on, the Lixo could be used for shopping at Campolide's local trade, thereby strengthening the local economy.
